Often the violence that Black trans women experience is erased from the organizing that happens when discussing violence against femmes while cis Black women are centered. BYP100, who operated from a Black Queer Feminist lens, wants to disrupt that narrative during #SayHerName week of action by having an event that not only centers Black trans women but is facilitated by Black trans women as well. Black trans women are dying at alarming rates in this country at the hands of Black cis people, specifically Black cis men. What would it mean to have a community conversation where folks can name harm and collectively design community accountability?
This event will be a real opportunity for Trans/GNC folks and Black cis-folks to have an honest conversation about the violence against Black trans women that we perpetuate and what accountability/healing looks like moving forward. The convo will be facilitated by Jamie Lee & Nala Simone . This community conversation will consist of presenting facts, information sharing, story telling, large group discussions and breakout groups.
FREE FOOD & DRINKS will be provided
Black & POC space ONLY
