The NYC-DSA Immigrant Justice Working Group is pleased to host a Know Your Rights Training for our working group and the wider DSA community. Staff attorneys from the Immigrant Defense Project (https://www.immigrantdefenseproject.org/) will lead the training. For six years, IDP has been monitoring immigration (ICE) raids in New York, and training community members and advocates on ICE tactics and arrest trends. Understanding ICE tactics can help shed light on how those at risk of deportation can prepare and how to strategize about ways to fight back through organizing and/or in the courts.
At a time when ICE raids, detention, and deportation of immigrants are on the rise, we should all know what our rights are. Who is at risk of arrest by ICE? What should you do if ICE knocks on your door? How can you tell the difference between the police and ICE? What can you do as a bystander if you are witnessing an ICE raid or arrest? We'll provide information about the current climate for immigrants in New York and will answer these questions and more.
